Mama Ally Espresso sits right on The Esplanade in Speers Point, offering a relaxed spot to enjoy both coffee and Filipino-inspired dishes with a waterfront backdrop. It’s the kind of place where locals drop by for a casual brunch or lunch while soaking up lake views that stretch out just beyond the outdoor seating area.

The café strikes a balance between Filipino flavours and familiar Australian café staples, making it approachable whether you’re after something new or a comforting coffee. Drinks like the iced Ube latte and Strawberry Matcha add a unique twist, standing out for those looking to try something a little different from the usual espresso or flat white. There are plenty of options for families too, including a babyccino and kids’ milkshakes, which fits the family-friendly vibe.

Interior and outdoor seating options mean you can grab a sunny spot by the water or settle inside for a quieter moment. This versatility makes it a convenient stop for weekend catch-ups, weekday work breaks, or casual meet-ups. The staff’s welcoming approach adds to the ease of the experience, making it suitable for both locals familiar with fusion café menus and visitors curious about Filipino treats alongside their coffee.

Food portions lean generous, with highlights like the pork adobo bowl and dessert offerings such as halo-halo and Filipino cakes, reflecting the café’s fusion focus without overwhelming the menu. It’s not a flashy dining scene but rather a comfortable place that embraces local tastes and a laid-back atmosphere by the lake.

Regular visitors seem to appreciate the friendly service and the chance to enjoy robust yet subtle fusion flavours with a scenic view, especially during daylight hours when the water adds a calming element to the café’s buzz.

Came here for lunch with lots of seating options with lovely views of the water. The staff were all so incredibly friendly. Ordered the kimchi pork and rice which so flavourful. The kimchi wasn’t too overpowering and paired really well with the pork belly and the rice was lightly seasoned. The purple yam latte was also very subtle and sweet without being too strong. A really great place to recommend if you want to try a unique Asian fusion cafe with water views. Once you’re finished just head straight down and take a walk by the lake. Only thing is parking can be a bit tricky sometimes as the main street is usually full.

We went here for lunch and it was lovely. The restaurant was booked out and we didn’t have a reservation, but we ended up being able to get a table—luckily, there was a table that just finished. The restaurant is nice, service was fantastic, professional, and accommodating. The food was delicious with generous portions. Compliments to the chef! Thank you to the wonderful staff that we met Cyril and her team and the owner who hosted she's warm and very welcoming. Would highly recommend!

What a great little place where you can get delicious food, friendly service, and a large, delicious cappuccino in a real large cup instead of of micro cups most other places serve. I love their Longsilog and Chicken Adobe Bowl dishes. Five stars is not enough, make it ten.

My wife and I visited on Wednesday 12 November while out for a coffee, and we’re really glad we stopped in. Mama Ally Espresso is a Filipino-run café offering a mix of traditional Filipino dishes alongside familiar breakfast and lunch options. They open early — around 6:30 a.m. — and close at 2:00 p.m., seven days a week. The café sits at the base of a block of apartments, facing beautiful Lake Macquarie. Out front, there’s a shaded outdoor seating area under a large marquee-style cover with pull-down screens. The esplanade traffic can make it a bit noisy at times, but the setup is welcoming, with plenty of plants and even small herb beds growing mint, basil, parsley, fennel and more — a really nice touch. Inside, it’s compact but functional, with everything neat and well-organised. For food, I had the bacon and egg roll on a brioche bun. The bacon was perfectly crisp, and the egg was cooked just right — lovely and runny. We also shared the Filipino spring rolls (Lumpia Shanghai) with Pancit noodles, and they were absolutely delicious. A really positive experience overall, and we’re keen to come back and try more from the menu.

How cool is this cafe! If you're looking for a cafe that combines delicious food, great vibes, and stunning views in the Newcastle area, this is the spot! With plenty of sunshine streaming in and a waterfront location, the ambiance is perfect for a relaxing meal or a casual catch-up. Their breakfast and lunch offerings are fantastic, featuring classic favourites with a twist. The highlight for me is their Filipino Adobo Burger—an absolute must-try. The flavours are next-level, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. Coffee is delicious too! The staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. This cafe is a gem.
